How to secure passwords in 24 ways




Never disclose your bank’s User ID, PIN & One-Time Password (OTP) to anyone. Bank or any other businesses will never request for your PIN, password or OTP.

Sett and use a security PIN code.

Adjust the phone settings so that it locks automatically if you don’t use it for five or ten minutes.

Not storing passwords or other sensitive information on your phone in a way that can be understood by someone else.

Use different passwords for different systems.

Don’t type your passwords to access banking apps or websites when you are outside your home or when visitors to your house can look over your shoulder to see you type your password or take a photo of you from behind you with the sensitive website on your screen to blackmail you.

Set reminders on your reminder app to change all your passwords every month.

Do not be tempted to use passwords that can easily be guessed, such as children’s names or birth dates.

Never write down your passwords, however, if you have no alternative, record them in a way that cannot be understood by anybody else.

Instead of using your Mother’s Maiden as your memorable name, consider using the name of your favourite cartoon character or another fictional person.

Use a mixture of numbers and letters of the upper and lower case to strengthen your password.

Use X different foreign languages > special characters in your password for your financial accounts for added security.

Don’t use the same password everywhere.

Use your other hand to shield your ATM Pin and other number pads as you enter the pins.

Always test that you can log into your accounts after migrating from one password manager to another before deleting the old password manager data.

Enable two-factor authentication in everything.

Change the default password, and unique password protect all devices.

Change all your passwords every month. Schedule into your reminder app.

For your security questions, e.g. what is your mother’s maiden name, use random alphabets, numbers, symbols 16 character password to answer the security questions (written on paper)

Use a different PIN or password for web-based services such as email, online shopping or subscription services.

Why not sandbox your password manager app on a dedicated smartphone with face & iris biometric login just for password manager where the phone doesn’t leave the safe inside your house? Phone on a separate data sim. No password manager on your work or home laptop?

Use an authenticator app in a secret phone that doesn’t connect to the internet at home that you put the phone in the safe.

Lastpass password manager setting that only allows log in after 2-factor authentication if the user I.P. is from the one country previously selected in the setting. E.g. only Australia I.P. can log in. Thus if, e.g. you are residing in Japan & you likely have enemies in Asia; therefore, you can change your password manager to only allow login from 1 other country except for Asia — Then you can use virtual private network apps to change your I.P. address to the same country as your password manager settings to log in. Still, VPN is different from your current physical world region. This will enhance security on top of creating only one email account with two-factor authentication & backup codes on paper dedicated to the password manager.

Google icon on the top right corner of your website > Manage your account > Security > In two-step verification in your Google account, set phone number, use Microsoft Authenticator app that has cloud backup as well as print on paper to put in safe on your backup codes. Revoke all trusted devices.

Update recovery emails for all your google accounts.
